Siti Hardijanti is the eldest daughter of the late President Suharto, as the closest child to the president, she has often acted as a spokes person for the family. Known as “Mabak Tutut”, she is formidable politician, business woman and social worker as well as a senior leader in the Golkar Party. She was Minister for Social Affairs for a brief term in 1998 just before her father’s fall from power, and was seen at that time as having presidential ambitions of her own.

She founded toll road operator PT Citra Lamtorogung Persada, a company which has expanded its business interest to other Asian countries including the Philippines. Early this year, it was rumored that Tutut had abandoned Golkar and joined the Care for the Nation Party (PKPB) led by Gen. Hartono, a long-standing Close friend. Vice President Jususf Kalla, the chairman of Golkar, dismissed the rumor, saying Mbak Tutu and other member of the Suharto clan remain loyal to Glokar.
